First week of Malaysia!

After a 12h flight, we arrived in KL Airport where our uncle fetched us. The first couple of days we spent in Klang, a town nearby KL.
First thing we did was eating the very good Asian dishes! God, I was so longing for this food and climate!
Short summary of our stay in Klang:
family, shopping malls, tasting all the good food, mosque, temples, cemetery, mosquitos, hot wheather, cold showers.
The most impressive thing these days was the visit to the cemetery where our grandparents are burried. It was on a private cemetery, surrounded by many statues of Buddhas. Such a beautiful sight! When we arrived in Malaysia, it was New Year for the Dead People. Sort of a celebration when you honour dead relatives.
We had their favourite food for them prepared according to the traditional Chinese customs. It is said that they would come and eat their food. By tossing coins one will know if they had finished their dinner. Coloured papers were thrown on their graves. My uncle and auntie had folded the special 'money' you can buy for these occasions. You should burn the money, so the dead people would receive it where ever they may be right now. Not only money can be burned, I also saw: washing machines, fridges, Louis Vuitton bags, shoes, bungalows, mobile phones, sport cars..... I'm still amazed that materials are, , even in the afterlife, even in the afterlife, that important.
The mosque was pretty impressive as well, we went to the Shah Alam near Kuala Lumpur. One of the biggest mosques in South East Asia. Wrapped up like a 'real' Muslim, we entered the mosque. Is has a blue dome which is said to be bigger than the dome of St Pauls Cathedral in London.

After 5 days we flew to Penang, we got lots of family over there. It is an island in the North of Malaysia, where you can get the best food in Malaysia! Everywhere hawkerstalls, everybody seems to be eating 24h a day, HEAVEN!
Penang breathes food!
Marije a friend of Carmen came on the 2nd day and stayed in a hostel just around the corner. Short summary of Penang: FOOD, lots of family visits, Chinese/ Hindu/ snaketemples, streetlife, tiny, crowded but very cosy and warm house at family.
Tomorrow evening we will be heading for the Perhentian Islands, which are said to be paradise! Diving, snorkeling, swimming, relaxing etc!
Our cousin from Penang will join us, and later on Janne, Marije and Meta will be joining us as well at paradise!
