Weekend Leon
Door: Karen
15 November 2004 | Nicaragua, Masaya
So, last thursday we started at the 'labour'floor. Don't know exactly how to call it in English, it's the floor where babies come to earth!
On thursday it was so tranquilo, no new birhts, I was kinda scared it would be as tranquilo as the emergencyfloor. But on Friday we saw 3 births!!! The mothers overhere are just soooooooo young! 16, 18 years is normal here! And everytime a woman gives birth to her first child, the doctors make an incision, to easy the labour. I first thought such an incision would be very painfull, and that the women would scream or anything, but nada! Still looks kinda scary though......
Friday we took a bus to Leon, a students-city 2,5 hours away from Managua. I know a student who lives in Leon, Dayann, met her in the Netherlands while she was attending 2 months of classes. But unfortunately she wasn't in Leon this weekend, too bad! I was so hoping to see her again!
We arrived Leon quite late in the evening, so the fisrt night we didn't do anything special. Just had our dinner in our hostel (Via Via) and had a few drinks. There was this live-band playing some great music, so I was content!
The next day we caught a bus to the beach near Leon, Poneloya. It was great!!! Just getting a bit tanned, did a bit of swimming (strong waves!!!), being lazy. You know, the usual: (almost deserted) beach, sun, sea, palmtrees, what a shitty life I have ;)
At the end there was a man asking us where we're from, inviting us to his house at the beach. First I was kinda like: what a freak, he wanted our tel.no etc. That's kinda normal here in Nicaragua, once you've talked to men for like 30 sec. they want to know where you live, what your tel.no is, what your email address is etc. So after half an hour he came back with some water, and a really cold coconut. He had a knife in his house to cut it open if we wanted too. I still was kinda doubting, but we decided to take a look. He lived in this really big house, had a speedboat, 2 jetski's and no work........ kinda strange huh.....
But we really enjoyed our coconut and got on our bus back to Leon. That night we went out to some reggae bar with 2 Dutch people we met in the hostel, was really fun!!!
On Sunday we explored Leon a bit, but the museums were closed and there was a mes in the cathedral. It's possible to get on the roof of the cathedral and have this panoramic view over Leon, but after the mes, it was closed..... too bad.....
There is this lake near Masaya which supposed to be amazing. We have to find out how to get there, I hope we can go there one of the upcoming afternoons......
Take care and hasta luego!!!
